THE KENYA AGRICULTURAL SECTOR DATA COMPENDIUM
This volume is part of the Kenya Agricultural Sector Data Compendium which has been
developed by KIPPRA with support from the Ministry of Agriculture and in collaboration
with Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Development and the Ministry of Cooperatives
Development and Marketing. Volume one presents introduction and general agricultural
statistics. Volume two and three presents crop and horticultural production respectively. Volume four presents livestock and fisheries statistics while Volume five presents credit
and cooperative statistics. Finally, Volume six presents data on market prices for products
and farm inputs.

Agriculture plays a central and strategic role in Africa’s development. Indeed, it is the key to economic growth, increased incomes, improved living standards, poverty eradication, and enhanced
food security. In fact, all the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) have direct or indirect linkages
to agriculture. It is for these reasons that in 2003, the African Heads of State and Government
adopted an Africa-owned and Africa-led initiative, namely the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural

AGRIC INSURANCE Kenya Background
This Agriculture Insurance Solutions Appraisal proposes the technical concept of a
potential public private partnership (PPP) in agricultural insurance in Kenya,
covering both crop and livestock. To go about this, it lays out the rationale for the
proposal, proposes an insurance PPP solution for the thus identified challenges, and makes
a suggestion for the required underlying institutional framework. This document shall
guide the further policy making and technical development processes and form the basis
for further discussion among all involved stakeholders.

AGRICULTURE BIG 4 PROGRESS REPORT

Technical Assistance (FANta) Project and its predecessor projects (IMPACT, LINKAGES), as
part of USAID’s support of the Cooperating Sponsors in developing monitoring and evaluation
